Social Media Reality Check

February 25, 2026February 25, 2026 ~ Kylie Eklund-Denman ~ Leave a comment

You may remember I wrote a few weeks ago about being off social media for a while. There were many reasons for this, mostly overwhelm and an ADHD diagnosis. But, one of the accumulative reasons was an ongoing viral video I mistakenly posted to my personal Instagram account and the response to it. I posted … Continue reading Social Media Reality Check

The Research Rabbit Hole

June 8, 2025 ~ Kylie Eklund-Denman ~ Leave a comment

Last time I checked in I had just had my first rejection after pitching. Later that day, I had a request for the full manuscript. The following week I had another request for the full manuscript. So now I'm in the waiting limbo that is 'on submission'. Some people like to send their work to … Continue reading The Research Rabbit Hole

What’s Next? Kyoto

October 16, 2024October 16, 2024 ~ Kylie Eklund-Denman ~ Leave a comment

If someone had told me it would take two years to get my book to a point I could send it to an editor for a manuscript assessment at the beginning of last year, I would have laughed. I haven't gone back to check, but I'm sure I made some outrageous predictions about finishing in … Continue reading What’s Next? Kyoto

What’s a Structural Edit?

April 2, 2024 ~ Kylie Eklund-Denman ~ Leave a comment

One thing I'm learning about writing is you learn everything as you go. You become a writer by writing. When I began this project I had no idea about writing, drafting, editing, publishing, or what a structural edit may or may not be. Now, I'm in the middle of one and it's a big mess. … Continue reading What’s a Structural Edit?

Japan Break

February 1, 2024 ~ Kylie Eklund-Denman ~ Leave a comment

When I finished my first draft, two weeks ago, I thought I'd jump straight in and start an editing re-write. Well, I did do that and it was not a good idea. I started getting sucked into a familiar black hole of sadness and I was overwhelmed. I'm condensing some pieces for competition, so I … Continue reading Japan Break

I respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional owners of the land on which I write and live, and the rich history of storytelling being an important part of the culture. I pay my respects to the elders, past and present, and acknowledge sovereignty of this land was never ceded.

Happy Birthday to this guy who would have turned 58 today. Next weekend I will be in conversation with my gorgeous friend, the ever lovely @christinenewellwriter ❤️ We’ve moved, so my Blythe dolls moved with us. They needed an extension, so I’ve completed the first room renovation. Talking with Marion Taffe about her book By Her Hand yesterday morning was such a joy. Last night’s sunset from our deck. Every day is different 🙌😍 #sunset🌅 #bigsky My pride and joy in Grade 6 ☺️ the library has always been my happy place Come see me, In Conversation with Marion Taffe, about her very excellent book, By Her Hand. Saturday morning 🙃 Belgrave Library at 11am. One of us has settled in extremely well and is enjoying being an only child #genji #treehousecat #midcenturymodern After wallowing, or was it drowning, in stress and grief and moving house, I’ve finally pulled on my big girl writing pants and put an order in for my gorgeous friend, @annefreemanwrites new book 🥳 I was surprised that I wasn’t too late for the goodies 🪩
